Team Australia is among the ships that will challenge for the 34th America's Cup in 2013 after its entry was accepted by the defending Golden Gate Yacht Club.

Team Australia, along with two teams from France, one from Sweden and one from Italy are the others contenders already announced for the Louis Vuitton Cup. Entries for the Louis Vuitton Cup close on March 31, with the winner earning the right to face America's Cup defending champion Oracle Racing of the United States in the 2013 event.

The America's Cup will be sailed on San Francisco Bay in 2013 in a new class of 22-meter, wing-sailed catamarans.

It is Australia's first entry in the America's Cup since 1999-2000. In 1983 it was the wing-keeled Australia II that defeated the American ship Liberty to end the New York Yacht Club's 132-year hold on the oldest trophy in international sports.
