Hurricane Irene - Ocean City, MD Evacuation Mandatory
Beach vacationers rolled across the bridge out of Ocean City, Maryland on Thursday evening. Ocean City, MD was one of many East Coast resort areas where evacuation was mandatory because of the approaching Hurricane Irene.
Mandatory Evacuation of Areas West of 50/301 Split in QAC - Effective 10 a.m. Friday August 26th Queen Anne’s County has declared a State of Emergency as Hurricane Irene moves towards us. All areas west of the Route 50/301 split are under mandatory evacuation orders effective Noon Friday. We expect all residents in the affected areas to evacuate by noon Saturday at the latest. Residents should evacuate either north on Route 301 or west on Route 50. The Bay Bridge will close when winds reach or exceed 55 miles per hour. Be advised: Emergency and County personnel will not be dispatched during the height of the storm to avoid endangering personnel. All businesses in the mandatory evacuation areas are ordered to close effective noon Saturday until further notice. There are two emergency shelters; none of which are located in the evacuation area. Church Hill Elementary School and Centreville Middle School will open their doors at noon Saturday. Pets will not be allowed in the shelters; except for certified guide dogs. All evacuees should remember to take along medications. Any further information can be monitored through press releases provided at Queen Anne’s County’s webpage, qac.org and WCEI Radio Station FM 96.7. Please do not call 911 unless it is a life or death emergency. Non-emergency calls will be taken at 410-758-1971. Queen Anne’s County Government is instituting these procedures for the safety of its residents. Please be safe and evacuate in a timely fashion before noontime Saturday.
