Oxford, Maryland's Public Beaches Still a Choice For Swimmers

Oxford, Maryland voters said no Monday to an ordinance that would lease town land for a YMCA facility and pool. The vote in Oxford came in at 206 people against the ordinance and 161 votes for the ordinance. Luckily for Eastern Shore area swimmers, the town has public beaches with great views of the Tred Avon river. The most popular public beaches in Oxford are the sandy beach near East Strand Road, and and the sandy beach near Morris Street at the waterfront park. The Scottish Highland Creamery is just a short walk from Strand beach. The homemade ice cream is a welcome treat under the sun. If you like picnics, shop at Oxford Market just across from the waterfront park. They too have a selection of ice cream, plus sandwiches, snacks, and beverages to help create a wonderful picnic.
