4th Annual Native American Artifact Exhibit
La Grange Plantation

April 2, 2011
On Saturday, April 2, 2011, the Dorchester County Historical Society, in cooperation with the South Dorchester Folk Museum, will hold the 4th annual Native American Exhibit on the La Grange campus. This campus is located off of Maryland Avenue East, at 1003 Greenway Drive.

Many beautiful collections of stone weaponry, tools and artifacts and many knowledgeable people will be there. Please feel free to bring any artifacts in for identification and to have any questions you might have about them answered. Most of the artifacts displayed were collected from the shorelines and fields of Dorchester and surrounding counties.

The Chesapeake Archaeological Research Foundation's collection will be shown by Dr. Darrin Lowery. Charles Clough may be showing the famous Sandy Hill Adena collection as it was once proudly displayed by Native Americans more than two thousand years ago. At least 20 lifetime collections covering more than 40 tables will be there for your viewing pleasure. You don't want to miss this rare experience.

Daniel “Firehawk” Abbott, one of Dorchester's own Native American sons, will be giving fantastic demonstrations on firemaking, flintknapping, and many other interactive activities to help you explore the world of our prehistoric culture.

The hours will be from 10:00 am until 4:00 PM. Directions can be found at http://www.historicdorchester.org. Food and refreshments will be available.

Please keep in mind that no artifacts will be bought, sold, or traded at this show. This will be a purely educational event. For any questions, please feel free to contact the Dorchester County Historical Society at 410-228-7953 or Terry Crannell at 410-221-5122.
