May 7: Colonial May Fair May Day Festivities at Old Wye Church - 10 AM - 3 PM. Annual event held on the grounds of the Old Wye Church, (1721), including colonial costumed docent-led tours, Clydesdale-drawn wagon rides to the working Grist Mill, (1682). Days events include May Pole dancing with participants weaving brightly-colored ribbons around a live-flower bedecked May Pole, Wye Auction Market with gift and furniture items and rare books as well as 23" by 63" wood-framed, diamond-paned stained glass windows that were removed from the Old Wye Church in the 1940s prior to its restoration, tours of the Church, the Lavender Shop, where candles, sachets, eye pillows and other items made from locally grown lavender will be sold, plants, flowers, vegetables and herbs available for purchase, vendors displaying their crafts, food such as Barbequed Chicken dinners, Smith Island Cake and other baked goods, and a homemade luncheon prepared by the women of the parish.
