Oxford Day Schedule of Events

Oxford Day - Eastern Shore of Maryland Event
Oxford Day
On Saturday, April 30, 2011Oxford will celebrate its 17th Annual Oxford Day. All of the organizations and businesses in town will be working hard to prepare for this all-day family celebration. So invite your friends and family to visit, plan on staying home, put aside the yard work and errands. Just relax, walk around our wonderful town and enjoy all the activities. And, this year's Oxford Day participants will be asked to add an environmentally friendly element to their floats, displays, and events to show that as a community Oxford is committed to making a difference in our world today and tomorrow.

Oxford Day Parade will run from 11:00 AM until noon. Please note thatMorris Street will be closed to ALL traffic during this time. Please allow extra time to travel in and out of town all morning and especially during the parade. There will be bands, many floats, various cars and trucks, a bagpiper, walkers, and some new entries in the parade.
Join the Cooperative Oxford Laboratory who will have plenty of hands-on, marine science activities and exhibits, including many fun activities for kids. See some of the “critters” that live in the Bay, learn about the Bay and oceans from local scientists and science professionals. Located at the end of South Morris Street, it can be accessed by walking or catching the shuttle to and from Causeway Park.

Flower Basket Competition is being held in conjunction with 2011 Oxford Day. All residence and business owners are encouraged to display fresh flowers in welcome and celebration of Oxford, spring, families, and town visitors. Displays can include traditional flower baskets on doors, fences, posts, hanging basket displays, flowers displayed on porches - be creative!  Contact the Oxford Town Office for more information or to sign up.
The Oxford Bellevue Ferry, believed to be the nation's oldest privately operated ferry service, crosses the Tred Avon River between Oxford,Maryland and BellevueMaryland. Established in 1683, the ferry is celebrating its 327th birthday this year, so take a ride and help celebrate history!  Note: the ferry will open 1 hour early at 8:00 AM for Oxford Day.
The Oxford Day 10K Run and 5K fun walk will start again this year at 8:00 AM. Registration can be done online at Active.com .  All proceeds benefit breast cancer support services in the Mid-Shore region by Bosom Buddies.
The Dog Show and Dog Walk will give you a chance to let your favorite pooch shine. These events are sponsored by Talbot Humane Society, and all proceeds will benefit the activities of the society.

As usual, there will be music, including the US Army's "Raw Materiel", a popular music ensemble, the US Navy’s “Country Current”, Old Friend’s Gospel Band, the Mid-Shore Community Band!    Food is available around town, provided by several non-profit groups, the Oxford Market and our local restaurants.  Fun activities for kids occur throughout the day and in several locations.

Check oxfordday.org for the 2011 schedule as it develops between now and April 30th!
