May 1: Frederick Douglass Honor Society & YMCA of Talbot County 10-Mile Race & Celebration - Retrace the 10 mile path Frederick Douglass walked from St. Michaels to his confinement at the Talbot Country jail in Easton after a failed escape attempt in April 1836. His imprisonment at the jail set the stage for a sequence of events that led to his eventual escape to freedom His accomplishments changed history and made extensive improvements in the lives of all Americans. Walkers, runners and wheelchair athletes will retrace this historic route to raise monies for the creation of a memorial to honor Frederick Douglass on the Talbot County Courthouse lawn. After the Race, join the Celebration in Easton, lot of music, food, vendors and fun! Race registration $35. Food and vendor prices will vary. Race begins at 9 AM; First Lady Katie O'Malley shall be an official participant in the post-race Celebration. Celebration 10 AM - 2:30 PM. Talbot County Courthouse, 11 N. Washington Street, Easton. May 1: 4th Annual Denton Spring Gala - 5 - 9 PM. Stroll through the streets of Denton to enjoy live entertainment by The Bi Joe Maher Jazz Ensemble, wine and beer tastings, refreshments, regional art, May Baskets, a silent auction and more! May 1: Colonial May Fair May Day Festivities at Old Wye Church - 10 AM - 3 PM. Annual event held on the grounds of the Old Wye Church, (1721), including colonial costumed docent-led tours, Clydesdale-drawn wagon rides to the working Grist Mill, (1682). Days events include May Pole dancing with participants weaving brightly-colored ribbons around a live-flower bedecked May Pole, Wye Auction Market with gift and furniture items and rare books as well as 23" by 63" wood-framed, diamond-paned stained glass windows that were removed from the Old Wye Church in the 1940s prior to its restoration, tours of the Church, the Lavender Shop, where candles, sachets, eye pillows and other items made from locally grown lavender will be sold, plants, flowers, vegetables and herbs available for purchase, vendors displaying their crafts, food such as Barbequed Chicken dinners, Smith Island Cake and other baked goods, and a homemade luncheon prepared by the women of the parish.
